Role of orchestra in dance performances

Music and dance are like two sides of a coin, cannot be seperated from each other. Music supports and compliments dance, the success of a dance performance depends on the quality of the music support they have. The emotion of the song that is reflected in the voice of the singer gets translated into the dancers's abhinaya, the rhythm of the percussionist into the dancer's footwork and the melody and grace of the instrumentalist into the dancers graceful movements. The dancer and the orchestra work as a team presenting a audio visual treat to the audience.

The importance of a strong team of musicians in a dancer's debut performance cannot be expressed in a few words or sentences. They work with the dancer not just in providing music but also in instilling confidence in the debutant, a moral support on stage when they take their first bow in a huge stage, in front of an expectant audience.

Providing music for dance performances is way different from music concerts and requires experience, patience and quick thinking to adjust to the dancer on stage.

With our vision to nurture and promote our art and culture we are committed to provide resources to artists and teachers who are working tirelessly in preserving our arts, culture and traditions in this far away land against all odds and creating a new generation of talented artists.

RagaChitra has experience in providing music support to dance performances, organizing dance performances of senior dancers and working with dancers to promote the art. The lead singer Nivedita ShivRaj has been providing vocal and veena support for Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi performances for the last 15 years and knows the need for quality music.

RagaChitra Foundation now offers musicians for providing music support for Arangetrams, Rangapraveshams, Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi dance performances. Teachers and parents can now concentrate on preparing the dancer for the performance and entrust the responsibility of arranging the orchestra in the hands of RagaChitra.
